What was your role at Apple?

I was an Apple Media Products Finance Intern at their Cupertino, CA, campus.

What was the culture/environment of Apple like? Did you enjoy it?

The environment is extremely collaborative. There is an emphasis in doing your best work at Apple through bringing in all of your experiences and values. The company offers such a wide range of Employee Resource Groups that are catered towards cultural/ethnic/gender identification and religious beliefs. I appreciate that employees of all backgrounds and experiences are celebrated since Apple truly values the individuals who want to be a part of the company's success and growth.

What kind of work did you do, and what were your accomplishments in this role?

I was able to work with Apple Media Products (AMP) finance. There was a focus on revenue reporting for services (Apple Music, Apple TV, News+, etc.). Forecasting revenue is a very iterative process and is constantly being revised to incorporate new assumptions regarding product, competition, and trends. Participating in the analysis enabled me to be familiar with the data and opportunities to present to senior management of the Finance organization results and findings.

How did you find this opportunity? (ex: networking, career fair, etc)

By working with the Cal Career Center and Handshake (the business application platform) I learned of the opportunity and applied. There was a lot of support from professors I had in Haas-- specifically Professor Sloan and Professor Fitch. They both assisted my application process when it came to resume/cover letter editing and sharing valuable insights. I also had the opportunity to practice my interview skills in the classes that are offered to Haas Undergraduate students and through career center services.

What personal qualities or characteristics are important for someone to have in this role?

The expectation is that everyone has the quantitative skills and they emphasize the importance of "soft skills." Apple fosters a culture that encourages people to have interests outside of work and seeks employees with subject matter expertise who can also be well rounded.
